Water as a Major Constituent of Our Body
Abstract
Importance of water in our life, how it helps to lose the fat level and helps in maintaining body weight, how it plays a role in gastric health, and how it promotes kidney functions in removing toxins from the body
Background
Nowadays, a lot of people are not aware of its importance and do not consume enough water that is essential for them and become dehydrated, as a result, several disorders such as hypertension, stomach problem (diarrhea, constipation) and hormonal imbalance occurs.
Introduction
Water is very essential for our overall health. Our body is made up of almost 60% water. And most of our body's functions are improved and regulated in the presence of water because it provides a suitable environment where most of the enzymes perform their functions.
Symptoms
· Dull Skin
· Lack of saliva production
· Difficulty in chewing
· Constipation
· Weight gain
· Gastritis
· Bowel movements become difficult
Recommended Intake of Water
According to the US National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and medicine, the average daily recommended intake of water should be;
For Men: 3.7 liters
For Females: 2.7 liters
This recommendation is only for the normal person at rest state, while this intake is significantly increased as we doing some hard works like exercise.
Role of Water in Weight Loss
Studies reveal that drinking one glass of water before breakfast, lunch, and dinner has a significant role in losing weight. Because when we drink two glasses of water before eating, it reduces approximately 22% less intake of food. Water also inhibits hunger regulating hormone, ghrelin, and helps in weight loss. Water also stimulates gastric and intestinal motility which elevates bowel movement and this is helpful in reducing weight.
Water in Maintaining Homeostasis
Water has a high heat-absorbing capacity, so due to this fact, it is used in stabilizing the body's temperature. Water evaporates from the skin and lungs to produce a cooling effect in our bodies. Water helps in maintaining the temperature of the body. So if we are dehydrated, temperature fluctuations occur in the body.
Water in Detoxifying Toxins
Water helps the kidney to perform its function. Urine contains a large amount of water and metabolic wastes are also present in urine. So if we consume less amount of water, uric acid is produced instead of Urine production. And uric acid leads to kidney disorders such as kidney stones.
Water in Reducing Fat Level
When we drink water, our body utilizes energy to change its temperature according to our body temperature. but when we drink cold water then more energy is utilized by our body to change its temperature. As energy is produced during metabolism, so in doing such activities, our metabolism works hard. If we drink water before breakfast, lunch, and dinner then energy is mostly coming from the metabolism of already stored glucose in the form of glycogen, so by doing so there is a limited chance of fat deposition in our body.
Water in Respiration
Water is the most vital constituent of blood composition and in the blood approximately 90% is water. As water helps in the circulation of blood and blood provides oxygen to all our body parts and in return takes carbon dioxide.
Water in Cardiac Health
Water provides elasticity in blood vessels. So if we drink insufficient water then blood vessels become strict and blood has difficulty passing as a result, blood pressure is increased. This high blood pressure cause heart to work hard and in doing such a fast activity, our heart efficiency of appropriate working is decreased as a result heart disorders begin to occur. While if we drink a significant amount of water, then blood has no restriction to pass and normal pressure of blood flow is maintained and the heart performs its functions efficiently and in this way, we also maintain our heart health.
Water in Hormonal Functions
When the body has sufficient water, we do not feel thirsty, but when we consume insufficient water, the pituitary gland secretes vasopressin, which regulates the kidney to conserve water. In this way, water is maintained in our bodies.
Conclusion
Water is one of the most vital components of our body which regulates most of our body functions. So we have to intake a sufficient amount of water so that our body performs normal functions and we are less exposed to diseases and remain healthy.
